its not personal but in life for things to go people need to be honest and sometimes toe the party line. if u want to put up ur own notes then u are obviously free to do so and as a ruse student i share my notes with my peers, however, when you go to ruse u agree to follow its rules and thus it is not fair to then go against this in putting up resources over which u have no right. and btw we do have lives

Dude, other selective schools have a collection of past papers from most selective schools. For example my school has papers from ruse, sydney boys , north sydney etc…while other schools like fort st will have papers from sydney tech and others..The schools aren’t tight with these papers..

I don’t believe you should call everyone who attends ruse a “fucking geek with no life” because you do not know everyone at my school and let’s face it, it reflects poorly on you and helps perpetuate stereotypes about how classy public school students are.

Who really cares if you come from a selective high school or not. In the end it all just comes down to whether or not you want to do the work and in this case past papers. Does it really matter what school they come from its just a resource for everyones use?
Too all those jrahs people, I’ve just read most of this forum and i really just can’t believe the lofty pinnacle youve placed yourself on. What you are really doing is denying other people the right to achieve in the HSC and lets be honest its everyones right. I know I’m not going to get into combined med at USYD (wow that would be the life all that partying…) but why should I not try to get the highest mark I can achieve?

Wow. I never expected there to be so many past papers on here. Also didn’t expect the little room at the end of C-Block to be seen as some kind of authority on Maths questions o.o
It’s great that people are willing to take up a challenging paper. It means they’re taking responsibility for their learning ^^
I’ve heard some Rusians argue that “the papers were written for us… go use textbooks or past HSC papers or something”. I don’t think that’s the main issue– the teachers put in a hell of a lot of effort making the questions– they don’t really expect them to be posted on the net for all, right?
I personally dislike the “throw your all into assessments” approach to learning. Examination technique is one thing that is (over?)emphasised at Ruse, so I guess that’s what makes the past papers challenging.
I agree with some aspects of what peeps have said. Sharing is caring. Trying out different styles of exam questions is great. Withholding papers isn’t selfish, but releasing papers then letting everyone use them isn’t. So people like “be grateful” (20090404), *thumbs up*
But if there are 2008 – 9 papers flying around the net, we have reason to raise an eyebrow.

Good grief, practising papers that come from Ruse to boost both your confidence and skill is an ASSET. The HSC is same for everyone, so if you can get even 60% on a Ruse paper, that’ll help you a lot when it comes to the actual HSC. I go to a local comprehensive and found this immensely useful to help boost my marks and really get up there in the top percentile. So thank you very much. I fully support you in your admirable aim to exemplify class mobility, but can you please keep the arrogance to a minimum. It’s not like you are going to institute great social change or benefit the world in any way; that’s not how tutoring works. It doesn’t teach originality, it teaches you to be better at one of the most routine, arbitrary testing systems on Earth.
So when you start to feel all pompous about your ‘amazing’ scaling that you get from your cohort, remember that I — much like many others — not only don’t go to your school but don’t even go to tutoring and will be — if not beating — getting within 1 or 2 ATAR points of you. Lol.
P.S Thanks for the papers, the first two or three questions of your Extension one maths papers are usually original which is a nice break from the usually banal ones supplied by other schools.

Like the person who posted above, I thought Rusians were a pretty good lot till I read the ridiculous amount of selfish, bigoted remarks above.
(And I still think that most of them are awesome.)
It’s not about ‘Let’s steal JR papers so we can learn the secrets of their apparent brilliance’ — it’s about trying a variety of tests from different schools so as to be more prepared for the HSC. If people are actually going out of their way to find past papers and do them, then they’re obviously interested in gaining a good mark in whatever subject they do/getting a good ATAR, and are willing to put in the effort; so claiming that these papers should be taken down to stop others from benefiting is more than a little immature. By all means, strive to do the best you can — but not by trying to cause others to do worse. That’s quite honestly not what I’d have expected of students who are going to be the future leaders of Australia.
(Oh, and I go to North Sydney Girls, where we’re encouraged to share our resources with people. If you’re being taught otherwise at JR, then it makes me all the more proud of my school.)

@ Non-Rusians, Ruse is just another school, with a sea of kids. You do get the fagmunches that troll around on sites like these; please keep in mind that these are the minority. Many Ruse kids with a life will be as socially acceptable as any other kid from CTHS, Baulko, Girra etc. all schools whom I respect.
I thank the people trying to keep this place sane.
@ Rusians, by being a complete prick, it is not helping our school image. Sharing some test papers, although risky with the Dep.Ed, is not giving away the cream. It depends on how you use it that makes the difference. If we are truly the best school, then prove it. Show us by making yourself a pro, and not by putting depriving others; work for it. Daniel Chang certainly has.

The problem with the papers is basically that our school is really tight on us about resources and stuff so we’ve grown up with this bad view on posting up past papers. Trust me it isn’t because we don’t want everybody else to do well. Ruse isn’t like that.

um…for the record, if you don’t go to ruse then you are in no position to judge what we do with our lives. not everyone is the same; we share higher intellect but that doesn’t mean we are all the same in other aspects of personality and social ability.
the only issue that i ever saw with this whole thing was that the notes were put up without permission…im not saying anything more than that, its just that in all respect for the people who work hard in our school to allow us to produce the results we pride ourselves in, it isn’t fair to put all this stuff up.
that said, i totally agree that ruse notes should be made public, im sure a lot of people can make use of them.

Haven’t taught at JR but have at other schools including selective & comprehensive. Good students & bad students at both types. Good teachers & bad teachers at both… and I KNOW this applies to JR. JR get the top academic students so as long as the school doesn’t stuff it up they have to get the top HSC results. Doesn’t mean the school itself is inherently superior.
In an ideal world resources would be shared since education is a universally good thing… but competition and laziness from others puts pressure on resource-hoarding.
For JR students upset about resource sharing:
1. Don’t feel so insecure. You still have the advantage over others with an academically superior cohort and probably a more academically-capable brain (that’s how you got there).
2. Don’t be so attached to your school. When you leave it won’t be protecting you, holding your hand… and you’ll meet, and sometimes be outclassed by, those from elsewhere who have a well-rounded education, social conscience and lower ATAR.

Guys, please stop fighting. I am new to Ruse and shared many of the views that people are expressing on this thread. However, upon entrance, I was surprised to find that Ruse students do have a social life, have LOTS of fun (some of the teachers are actually hilarious) and are amazing people.
The person who is acting as a Ruse student and provoking everybody by acting like an idiot is obviously not from Ruse, I can tell you from experience that no such person would last at Ruse for 2 days.
Why can’t we stop fighting and appreciate what Dan has done in uploading Ruse past papers? Sharing is caring, and at the end of the day, everybody benefits when people get smarter!

dear everyone who is putting ruse down,
ruse is an excellent school who does not breed nerds or anything of the sort. The people are not arrogant and very friendly and as a matter of fact i go to ruse currently and i have a hell of a life. Dan im not sure you have the authority to post these up but i think that everyone SHOULD be allowed to view these papers; it will help the rest of you learn. But also getting pissed at other ruse students just because they are smarter than you is not very nice. leave them alone. The only problem i have with this is that the school could get angry that dan has not asked their permission to put this up.

Yeah, i’m not a ruse person. In fact, until i found this site, i hadn’t even heard of the damn place.
And i find it quite amusing that the amount of people who are all like ‘shouldn’t share papers because james ruse is gonna kick ass in the hsc cause we’re better and you’re dumbasses.’ are either trolls (and i must say, are doing a pretty good job of trolling people here), or ARE in fact a bunch of apathetic, soulless creatures (might i add, with a severe inferiority complex) who should be locked in a dark room, doing some menial job for the rest of their (already miserable excuses of) lives.

Besides, ATAR is kinda redundant once you’re at uni. Nobody (except arrogant dickheads) goes around at uni saying ‘look at me, i’m a clever c**t who got 99.95 and i’m doing a degree at . That means i’m better than you. What did you get? Oh, only 83.75. Shame. Because i got 99.95, and i’m amazingly brilliant herp derp.‘
That stuff just gets you beaten up and abused, often to the point where you seclude yourself completely, or end up leaving, or dropping out altogether.

Well the students at baulko seem to have gotten significantly dumber in the past year(s). Last year, baulko was ranked 4th (dropped 2 places)… and this year, their naplan results were horrendous.
And yet, the kids at baulko continuously boast about their so called ‘intelligence’ and ‘skill’, when they’re evidently getting dumber by the year.
When will these kids learn… *sigh*

Well people would have no reason to boast if they got into their desired course, would they not?… Or unless they got into a low ATAR course (because their ATAR wasn’t as high as they would’ve liked), and in that case, people would be too ashamed to boast.
The cut off for USYD med is 99.95… and if a student got into that course, the course name itself would be able to tell others that they’re smart.
No-one in their right minds would boast about an ATAR. I don’t know what world you’ve been living in, but in this world, that doesn’t happen.
Psssh, the Ruse kids giving everybody else craaap about their inferiority? Well ehh. It’s not like those ‘other kids’ even bothered studying. Then they expect the people who have worked SO HARD during the HSC to give up their HSC papers so that they can ‘attempt’ to become smarter?! Well their stupidity shows.

Those idiots out there that think Rusians don’t have social lives obviously don’t have one themselves. They haven’t taken the initiative to meet a Rusian because they are apparently ‘too superior socially’ to be able to talk/meet a stereotyped ‘nerdy low-life’.

When they’re working in a basement full of rats, and ends up getting bitten by one (because they failed to get into a UNI course due to their snobby, ignorant beliefs and actions), who will be the ones to help you recover? I’m not from Ruse, but I know for a fact that Ruse students are actually nice, sociable people. Even on this website alone, there are plenty of people who are hating on NSW/Australia’s #1 high school– James Ruse. And why? Because many of these ignorant people are actually jealous of the smart Rusians.
I’m sure that if these Ruse haters were actually smart enough (if they’d taken the initiative to actually WORK HARD) to attend Ruse, they’d feel somewhat happy of their achievements (going to Ruse is a BIG ACHIEVEMENT!). It’s human nature to feel blessed to attend such a wonderful school, like Ruse. Students at Ruse are NOT ignorant– they are merely students who are proud of their school’s academic status. If you were part of a school that well-renowned, you’d be proud to be a part of its community, would you not? These students should not be hated on just because they are not ashamed of their school!
And yet, people fail to realize that the Ruse stereotypes are false. People believe that Ruse, although a smart school, is ignorant– as a result of their jealousy. If they were a part of an awesome school, they’d probably think otherwise… but they’re not!
Maybe there are a few Ruse students that fit the stereotype, but the majority of Rusians are nice people. You cannot form an opinion on school based on what one member/person does!
That said, I truly admire Ruse’s competitive, considerate and caring atmosphere– it’s a school to be envied!

Here’s an idea for everyone.
Instead of venting hatred here, think of the law of conservation of energy: energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only change form. With that said, convert and channel that negative energy into your HSC and study and all that, and actually try and get a decent mark. That way you can get somewhere in life. At the moment my HSC’s going to hell, so get the fuck off your computers and do some fucking study.

Ruse is a school full of benders who are incredibly socially awkward. You see them at the bus talking non-stop about DotA and ‘o wow, I haven’t started studying yet, I really should.’ The Ruse community is so secluded in their little bubble, a lot of them end up marrying each other (Ruse kids will never believe this.) its funny that no one gets that dan is only sharing these past papers because he’s already graduated so obviously it doesn’t affect him at all (so no guys, he’s not actually that nice and caring and kind.)
also, if everyone thinks that papers should be shared even though they are actually the legal property of the school, then why isn’t there some sort of link from the BOS then huhhh?! and if they were to be free for anyone to just take and use, then why do schools have to pay for cssa papers? .. how is that fair someone please explain.
