What a piss-weak argument. I am in favour, and that wouldn’t convince me. Love? Maybe law school has made me brutally cynical, but the arguments need to be grounded in more concrete principles.

As far as I’m aware, the three broad strands of modern Western politics — liberalism, social democracy, conservatism — all support same-sex marriage. For liberals it’s about rights, for social democrats, it’s equality. And for conservatives — here’s the trump card — it promotes family values. That’s it. That’s all that has to be said. I know for many conservatives that will blow their minds, but it’s not my fault they don’t even live by their own rules.

It was going to happen in our lifetime anyway. Keeping the message simple will simply accelerate the process.
