When the fed­eral budget out­come goes from a planned sur­plus of 1.2% to 1.8% of GDP, and there is a nom­inal net cut in out­lays, that can­not be said to be put­ting upward pres­sure on infla­tion. So you’re wrong there, and that’s bad enough. But for you to argue that taxes on alco­hol and lux­ury cars and real increases in gov­ern­ment spend­ing are the cause, is frankly unfor­giv­able. They are oppos­ite things. One is tak­ing money out of the eco­nomy, and the other is pump­ing it in. Fur­ther, price increases due to once off events are not con­sidered incid­ences of infla­tion.
