It was featured in an episode of Bill Bryson’s Notes from a Small Island — as the ultimate example of pedestrian unfriendly urban design resulting in a dead city centre. That topic is something of a pet hate for Bill.

Hmm, after looking into it I would have to agree with him. It facilitates travelling between these zones, but kills the hearts of the zones, because it’s so difficult to get there. Plus, grid patterns for cities are pretty ugly.
