Casino Royale

In spite of the (baseless) brouhaha over Daniel Craig, Casino Royale

is an admirable addition to the Bond franchise. After the camp and flimsy flop that was Die Another Day, the universe has been rebooted to the start of James Bond’s 007 career.

After performing the necessary two kills required for 007 status, Bond is sent to Madagascar to trail a terrorist bombmaker. After a chase destroying most of a construction site, Bond kills the bombmaker — on film. The images are released to the international media, and M throws a hissy fit, questioning her decision to promote him.

The plot gallops forward leading to terrorist financiers, double agents, and games of Poker.

See wikipedia Blonde Ambition film for a fully plot summary.

I liked the darker slant taken on Bond’s character. How could you not question what drives a man to devote full and faithful service to Queen and country, where assassination is all in a day’s work? Simultaneously though, the film is incredibly funny in parts, particularly in a torture scene(!).

Overall, 4 stars from me.

ETA: This wouldn’t be a film without product placement. I saw: Ford, Sony Ericsson/VAIO/Cybershot, and of course Aston Martin.download Gojira VS Mekagojira
